PLP's Scott faces roadblock after Perinchief query
Ex-Assistant Police Commissioner Wayne Perinchief is on leave from the Service -- despite a court ruling he should be reinstated after losing his job.
Mr. Perinchief's enforced redundancy followed a shake-up of the Police Service.
But last October he won a Supreme Court case when Puisne Judge Norma Wade ruled his post had not been abolished because no legislation changing the number of officers in the Service was passed. Government was said to have acted illegally.
A Government appeal against the decision is expected to be heard shortly.
On Friday in the House of Assembly, Shadow Public Safety Minister Alex Scott questioned his Government counterpart Quinton Edness about the Perinchief controversy.
Mr. Edness told MPs: "While the matter remains before the courts I cannot comment on it in any detail.
"I can say, however, that the effect of the Judge's ruling in this case was to reinstate Mr. Perinchief.
"But given previous statements made by him it was decided that he should be sent on leave pending the determination of that appeal.'' Last month Mr. Perinchief filed a second writ over his enforced redundancy.
It is aimed at Governor Lord Waddington, Home Affairs Minister Quinton Edness, the Public Service Commission and Commissioner of Police Colin Coxall. Mr.
Perinchief was made redundant from the Police along with former Supt. George Rose.
