Wade, Brangman sparks stars
A goal in each half by Carol Ann Wade and Sharleta Brangman gave Dandy Stars a deserved victory in this women's exhibition match at Wellington Oval on Saturday.
Though Chevonne Furbert of Rude Girls put a shot against the crossbar in the 13th minute, Dandy Stars held a territorial advantage during the first half as striker Wade put a chance wide midway through the half after substitute Chelito DeSilva was robbed near the edge of the penalty area.
On the half hour Sharleta Brangman had a shot cleared off the line following a corner on the left.
Wade went close again a couple of minutes later when she ran the ball past the advancing substitute 'keeper Renee Darrell, but also wide of an empty goal.
After a long period of pressure Sakena Clarke put a gift chance over the bar at the other end for Rude Girls who were unluckly not to have taken a shock lead.
The deadlock was finally broken 20 seconds into injury time when Darrell, thinking the ball had gone out for a goalkick, dropped the ball at the feet of Wade with the intention of kicking it upfield. But Wade, not having heard a whistle, promptly pocked the ball into goal.
Rude Girls came close to equalising early in the second half when Chevonne Furbert had a point blank shot blocked. In the 58th minute Dandy Stars doubled their lead when Sharleta Brangman drove the ball into the far post from close range.
Rude Girls finally got on the scoresheet two minutes from the end when Keona Saunders pulled a goal back after intercepting a weak back pass. See picture on page 17.
