NDC officer plans Island-wide survey
at the National Drug Commission.
Educational psychologist Dr. Julie Dunstan will be the research officer for the NDC and included in her remit will be studies of high school and middle school pupils, as well as the second survey of the adult population.
Dr. Dunstan, who already has a wealth of experience on the Island, will also gather data on substance abuse with the aim of further developing work to continue the fight against drugs.
NDC chief executive officer Dr. Derrick Binns said: "Dr. Dunstan not only brings outstanding academic creditionals, she also has significant local experience developing programmes and working with children and parents.
"Research provides valuable support for public information aimed at preventing substance abuse in Bermuda.
"We believe her appointment strengthens our ability to wage an effective campaign of education, prevention and treatment.'' Dr. Dunstan -- a graduate of Warwick Academy -- has worked in Bermuda with the Reading Clinic, Bermuda High School for Girls and Bermuda College.
She said: "The work of the NDC is very important for the well-being of our community.
"By studying, evaluating and measuring the effectiveness of its programmes. I can assist the other professionals in their work.'' It is understood the results of the survey of the school population will be known within a few weeks.
