Paget council beefs up grants plan for students

The council has given away thousands dollars to Bermuda College students for years, chairman Duncan Macbeth said.

But after receiving requests from more students for help, he said the council decided to offer a $4,000 per annum undergraduate scholarship.

The scholarship will be awarded, for a maximum of four years, to a student in the undergraduate level of an approved university or college abroad.

Applicants must be Bermudian and have resided in Paget for at least five years.

They must also submit a completed application form, which can be obtained from the council secretary at Dorchester Realty Limited offices on Church Street, no later than June 30.

Mr. Macbeth said preference will be given to applicants with strong academic credential and, in particular, students who can demonstrate financial need.

The scholarship selection committee will interview a short-list of applicants in July and the successful candidate is expected to be named shortly afterward.
