Residents try to get rid of `eyesore' in Warwick

A Warwick resident's neighbours have made a last ditch attempt to get him to clean up his eyesore of a yard.

People living near trucker Vincent Richardson's home on Middle Road are reported to be fed up with the litter around his residence.

And a man who contacted The Royal Gazette anonymously said: "His yard is an absolute disgrace. I am one of his neighbours and everyone who goes by his house has to look at all the trash and rusty truck parts that cover his yard.

"We've tried asking him to do something about it but talking to him is like water running off a duck's back.'' But when contacted, Mr. Richardson replied: "No-one has ever spoken to me about my yard. It is commercial property.'' He explained that when he or his staff picked up trash for people they had to first sort it out before taking the items to their respective drop-off points.

Mr. Richardson said he did this sorting in his yard which was why there were always mounds of assorted rubbish there.

It was an ongoing process, he continued, which had to take second place to trucking which "pays the bills''.

When there was no trucking to be done, he pointed out, then he and his crew sorted the garbage and delivered it to where it had to go.

As far as the spare truck parts were concerned, Mr. Richardson explained that the rising cost and unavailability of parts for his trucks was why he had to salvage what he could.

And he noted: "Anyone across the street from my house is not my neighbour.

Four Star Pizza is my neighbour and I don't bother them and they don't bother me.

"I don't even want to know who spoke to you. I don't care. Some people just run their mouth because they've got a tongue.

"When people say they have come to talk to me, they are lying. If they come to me, I will tell them the same thing I am telling you. If they are going to complain, tell them to come and see me.

"Remember, one person's trash is another man's gold.''
