The attacker, who had earlier been banned from entering the Champion Sports Club on Reid Street, approached the premises at about 3.00 a.m. on Sunday.

When the security guard refused to let him in a fight broke out in which the guard received a cut to his neck and facial bruising.

Police are now investigating the attack.
