Prison Commissioner to decide officers' fate
Co-Ed facility will have to wait until next month to find out their fate.
A file on the closed criminal investigation was passed to Commissioner of Prisons Ed Dyer three weeks ago, but he has confirmed that no decision has been made on their future.
And the three officers, who were suspended from duty in March after the allegations made by an English drug smuggler that she was raped by staff whilst in custody, will have to wait until this week for any ruling.
The hefty file was passed to Mr. Dyer earlier this month after Crown lawyers concluded there was insufficient evidence to support a prosecution at present.
Mr. Dyer has to decide what, if any, punishment is necessary or if the men should return to duty.
The Prison Officers Association have long urged for the men to be reinstated if there were to be no criminal proceedings.
They are concerned at the length of time the probe has taken, and are concerned for the pressure the officers and their families are under, as well as an already understaffed service.
The prisoner, a 19-year-old from London, was transferred back to the UK to serve the remainder of her six-year sentence, after appeals to the Governor and British Government.
She was convicted of smuggling $66,000 of heroin into Bermuda in 1997.
