Minister plans public walks
morning walk tomorrow.
He will be setting off from Tobacco Bay in St. George's at 8.30 a.m. and ending at Gates Fort at 11 a.m.
The walk will be the first in a series of walks through the Island's open spaces.
Minister Hodgson hopes the walks will familiarise residents with the beauty and enjoyment of the Railway Trails and parks.
The series will involve a different area each month and will enable residents to make suggestions to the Minister for improvements.
COUNTERFEIT WARNING CRM Counterfeit warning Police have warned the public to be alert for counterfeit Bermuda $50 notes which have been successfully passed in and around the city of Hamilton recently.
The bills all have serial number C/1 344998 and were discovered by security at the banks, mixed amongst the various deposits of city area businesses.
The earliest deposit was September 14, and the most recent was on Tuesday.
Police have urged people to be vigilant, particularly those handling money such as cashiers when receiving payment from customers.
Any suspect currency should be held up to the light for detection of the tell-tale watermark.
If it is absent, the note should be refused and a description noted of the individual before Police are summoned.
ROBBERY ARREST CRM Robbery arrest Two men were arrested shortly after midnight yesterday in connection with a robbery reported to have taken place early on Tuesday morning.
The complainant said he started talking to two men just after 3 a.m. on Front Street in Hamilton and he left with them shortly after.
When they reached the junction of Elliott and Court Streets, one of the culprits allegedly snatched the man's wallet, while the other kicked him in the right side of the body. Both then fled.
Based on information received, Police arrested a 22-year-old St. George's man and a 33-year-old Pembroke man shortly after midnight yesterday.
They were taken to Hamilton Police station and detained for further inquiries.
PAID: FOUR-YEAR-OLD FINE CTS Paid: Four-year-old fine A Hamilton Parish man pleaded guilty to a four-year-old charge of disobeying a traffic sign in Magistrates' Court yesterday.
William Astwood, 58, crossed his arms and smiled when Magistrate Will Francis asked him if he remembered the fine.
"Oh yes sir. I paid it.'' he said.
However, court computers failed to find any evidence of Astwood paying his fine so he pleaded guilty again.
Mr. Francis fined him $75 for the offence.
RESORT LOOKS AT SECURITY CRM Resort looks at security The St. George's Club is working with Police after a spate of burglaries at the resort.
American visitor John Praksta said there were rumours about nine burglaries in the last six weeks and that he had $60 stolen.
He said: "It's disturbing -- it has never happened before in all the years I have been coming here.'' Manager Andrew Hall said: "I don't think we have had as many as nine burglaries.'' He advised visitors to take precautions such as locking rooms when going out and leaving valuables in the safety deposit box until the problem was solved.
BURGLAR HITS HOME CRM Burglar hits home Cash was allegedly stolen from a Tatem's Hill house in Pembroke on Wednesday night.
The complainant said he left the house secured at approximately 6 p.m. but returned later to find signs that someone had broken in.
The thief searched through one of the rooms and removed the cash which was kept inside a plastic bag.
