Woman was stalked by sex attacker, court hears
demands, a court heard this week.
"I felt resigned to the fact that I would not escape from him physically,'' the victim said.
She was testifying in the trial of a 25-year-old Pembroke man accused of stalking and sexual assault.
None of the names of the persons involved can be disclosed for legal reasons.
The 27-year-old woman alleged she first saw her attacker as she was about to leave Hamilton shortly before midnight on September 23.
The man reportedly told her he had been admiring her all evening, but when the woman asked if he wanted money, he told her he had plenty of his own.
Later the same night, she noticed a cycle following her as she rode home on Harbour Road.
And after she turned off the main road, the cycle rode alongside the woman and forced her off the road.
She eventually recognised the attacker as the same man she had seen in Hamilton.
He reportedly told her he "wanted her p***y'', threw her against a wall, punched her face, and forced two fingers inside her vagina.
However, the man reportedly ceased his attack when the woman claimed she lived alone in a nearby residence and was willing to take him there.
He even allowed the woman to ride her own cycle to the apartment -- where her boyfriend was waiting.
And as soon as she arrived at home she screamed for help.
During his testimony, the boyfriend said he heard his girlfriend arrive and shout: "Help me. There is a man in the house. He hit me. Stop him.'' But by the time the boyfriend left the bedroom, both his girlfriend and the alleged assailant were already outside the apartment. The alleged assailant was trying to start his cycle.
The boyfriend then held the cyclist by the elbow and asked him what was going on while his girlfriend went back inside to call Police.
The alleged attacker reportedly told the boyfriend his girlfriend had "decked out'' and eventually rode away.
But the victim had already noted the bike's licence number which she later gave to Police.
The boyfriend admitted he did not realise how serious the incident was until after the man escaped.
The victim suffered bruising to her right finger, forehead, right cheek, and jaws.
She also suffered abrasions to the outer area of her vagina, and stiffness in her neck and shoulder.
The alleged attacker was later apprehended by Police and the boyfriend identified in a Police line-up.
Legal arguments dominated yesterday's court session and the trial continues on February 17 before Magistrate Edward King.
Lesley Basden is representing the Crown. Mark Pettingill is representing the defendant.
