Two-sport star Hill in a quandary

But it won't just be the allrounder's performances in Guyana during the short tour which will determine whether he becomes a part of the ICC squad which heads to Malaysia in March.

Cricket officials are anxious to have their national players commit to just one sport. And that isn't so easy for Hill as he's also talented enough in football to have been selected for a training squad of 31 which will soon begin preparing for the country's re-entry into the Shell/Umbro Caribbean Cup in February.

In the past both Bermuda Cricket Board of Control and Bermuda Football Association have insisted that their top players dedicate to one sport.

That demand was put on Hill's older brother, Ricky, in the build-up to the last ICC Trophy. He lost out on selection after being spotted playing in a reserve match for North Village after agreeing to commit to cricket.

Now Corey, who played yesterday for Vasco in the Dudley Eve semi-final, finds himself in the same predicament of having to choose between the two sports. It isn't known whether new national football team coach, Clyde Best, will also ask his players to avoid a second sport.

Hill, however, knows he isn't likely to have it both ways. "I'm going to play golf,'' he quipped when put on the spot yesterday about the inevitable decision.

"I have thought about it (decision),'' he answered when pressed further.

Still, he was careful not to say too much, though he did admit the decision might have to be made for him.

"They haven't said anything to me yet. I'll wait for it to go down to the wire and then make a decision.'' Other members of the national cricket team who have been playing football this season are Clay Smith, Dean Minors, Del Hollis and Lionel Cann.

Two others who have pulled out of the cricket tour because of injury and work commitments -- Gregg Foggo and Janeiro Tucker -- have also been involved in football. All face having to give up soccer if they are to be considered for the national cricket team.
