Magistrates' Court earlier this summer to avoid a traffic ticket.

The court heard that Makee Dwayne Tucker of West Avenue was stopped on Middle Road, Warwick, on May 17 for traveling at a speed of 55 kph.

Tucker failed to appear for his first court date on June 16 and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Two days later, he appeared before Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis denying that he was the one Police had stopped.

On June 23, the arresting officer was unable to positively identify Tucker in court as the driver, and the charge was subsequently dropped.

While in the Hamilton Police Station later, Tucker admitted to officers that he had lied in court. "I knew what I was doing, but I don't know why,'' said the 18-year-old.

Mr. Francis told Tucker he knew the exact reason for his actions: "You just wanted to get off.'' Before he was fined $300, Tucker told the Senior Magistrate: "I'm sorry for wasting your time and the court's time.''
