New board members appointed to foundation
recent annual general meeting of The Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies, after election by the contributing members to the Foundation.
Catherine Lapsley has recently taken up the position of executive director and coordinator of the Foundation and a permanent office has been set up in the Cedarpark Centre in Hamilton.
The trustees and advisory trustees are again made up of a number of insurance and education leaders.
They include chairman Brian Hall, Don Baker, Victor Blake, Michael Butt, Andrew Carr, Dr. George Cook, Dominic Frederico. Anthony Goodfellow, Gayle Gorman, Preston Hutchings, James Kelly, Thomas Kelsey, Douglas Kline, Chris Longo, John Lummis, Adolf Luttke, Brian O'Hara, Haruyo Oka, Steven Outerbridge, Gregg Springer, Dr. Ellen Thrower and Chez Viner.
The Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies was formed in order to develop, coordinate and oversee the availability, direction and funding of training and educational facilities specialising in insurance-related academic and professional designations.
One of the Foundation's objectives is to award scholarships to Bermudians. At present, seven are under scholarship at the Bermuda College majoring in Insurance, with a further six students completing their degrees at the College of Insurance in New York and the University of Hartford, Connecticut.
Ms Jean Southworth, the Foundation's coordinator since inception in 1996, has stepped down as she prepares to leave the Island. She won wide praise for exceptional contributions in a volunteer capacity.
