Bermuda Day traffic advisory
Bermuda Day.
As a result of this Police have issued the following traffic advisory.
At 9 a.m. the Heritage Cycle Race will start on Somerset Road, just south of Gilbert Lane. The riders will go along Somerset Road, Middle Road, Burnt House Hill, Harbour Road to The Lane, along Crow Lane into Hamilton and finish on Cedar Avenue. The race will take approximately 30 minutes.
At 9.25 a.m. in-line skaters will race from Hog Bay Level along the same route as the cyclists finishing at Cedar Avenue at approximately 10.05 a.m.
The Marathon Derby will commence at 9.30 a.m. in Somerset Village, follow the same route as the cyclists, and finish at Bernard Park. The first of the 400 runners will reach their destination at about 10.50 a.m.
A Junior Classic Run will start on Front Street near the Cenotaph and finish at Bernard Park approximately 10.15 a.m.
Police therefore warned that certain roads will be closed due to the cycle and road races.
Somerset Road between the junctions of Cambridge and West Side roads will be closed to traffic between 8.35 a.m. and 9.45 a.m.; Traffic travelling west over Somerset Bridge will be stopped to allow cyclists through; Burnt House Hill, Harbour Road, The Lane and Stowe Hill will be closed between 9 a.m. and 11.30 a.m.; Dutton Avenue will be closed between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.; Canal Road between Laffan Street and Marsh Folly will be closed between 8 a.m.
and 8 p.m.; Palmetto Road and Marsh Folly Road between Bishop Spencer Road and Dutton Avenue will be closed to westbound traffic between 10.30 a.m. and 6.30 p.m.; and Blackwatch Pass will be closed to southbound traffic between 10.30 a.m. and 6.30 p.m.
Police also announced that there will be no parking in the following areas: Langton Hill between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.; Bermudiana Road on the eastern side between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m.; Par-la-Ville Road between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m.; Church Street between King Street and Queen Street from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Front Street between Par-la-Ville Road and Court Street from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Reid Street between Court Street and Queen Street from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Queen Street from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Court Street between Front Street and Church Street from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.; King Street from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Cedar Avenue between Victoria Street and Angle Street from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
