Local karate instructor Bob Smith has recently completed an instructional video.
Entitled "Goju-Ryu Karate's Dynamic Self-Defence for All'', the video is believed to be the first produced locally.
Smith says it is primarily aimed at the karate novice although the material covered will benefit all those who practise the sport.
Chief instructor in Bermuda for the International Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate Do Federation (IOGKF), Smith says the project is something he has been planning to do for some time. "I have always held the opinion that everyone should have, at the very least, a basic knowledge of self-defence,'' he said.
On the video, Smith teaches how to defend against chokes, punches, kicks, wrist grabs and lapel grabs.
He admits that "formal training under a qualified instructor will always be the best option, but a videotape does have its advantages such as: the ability to study at home at one's convenience, and the ability to repeat lessons over and over again.'' The video sells for $49.95.
