Hooking up the traffic lights
to help the city solve a "complex'' problem -- a breakdown in traffic lights at the corner of Par-La-Ville Road and Church Street.
Mr. Ron Hook, who was the Corporation's general superintendent until his retirement several years ago, recently arrived from Britain to review Hamilton's sewage outfall extension system.
The guarantee on the system is about to expire, Corporation secretary Mr.
Roger Sherratt explained.
Mr. Hook, who will be here for several months, was also scheduled to train a Bermudian technician to look after the city's traffic lights and pay-and-display parking boxes.
"But now he's doing some extra things,'' Mr. Sherratt said.
"It just happened that we were fortunate enough to have him here, under unfortunate circumstances.'' The traffic lights at one of the busiest city junctions broke down a week ago.
The fault is believed to be linked to underground wiring.
And, Mr. Sherratt said, repair work may involve tearing up "a little piece of road''.
The lights are expected to be out for at least a couple more days and the Corporation apologised for any inconvenience caused.
Police urged traffic to use extreme caution when travelling in the area.
