Bierman, Government court battle ends
products firm ended yesterday.
But Puisne Judge the Hon. Mrs. Justice Wade reserved judgment.
The Environment Ministry is fighting to shut down Bierman's Concrete Products, located in a residential area of Smith's Parish near the Rocky Heights quarry.
Beirman's lawyers submitted that as many as 55 jobs were hanging in the air.
And construction costs could sore because concrete block would have to be imported if the firm was closed down.
Government lawyer Mr. Philip Holder argued the fact that the quarry was exhausted meant the company should cease operating or move allowing the area to be developed for housing. Residents in the area were being subjected to noise and dust from the plant.
Furthermore, he claimed, Bierman's never had use rights to the site. But Mr.
Mark Ray and Mr. Mark Diel, representing the Bierman's, claimed the company and the quarry were not directly linked and the firm should be allowed to continue operations.
