Bay shuffle deck for Counties' clash

into tomorrow's Eastern Counties Cup second round tie against Cleveland at Sea Breeze Oval with four changes to the team that drew against Flatts in the first round.

Missing from their line-up will be Glenn Smith, Chris Smith, Dennis Pilgrim and Corey Hill. Brought in as replacements are Devrae Hollis, Anthony Braithwaite, Damon Edwards and Clarkie Trott.

Glenn Smith has remained in England with his Northumberland league team Benwell while captain Chris Smith is serving a suspension. Both Hill and Pilgrim have been dropped.

The Bailey's Bay team is as follows: Ricky Hill (captain), Charlie Marshall, Noel Gibbons, Cal Dill, Devrae Hollis, Irving Burgess, Irving Romaine, Clarkie Trott, Anthony Braithwaite, Jermaine Outerbridge, Damon Edwards. Reserves are Corey Hill and Dennis Pilgrim.

Cleveland were expected to select their team last night with one probable headache being a search to replace fast bowler Diallo Sharrieff who has a broken jaw and is unlikely to play. Skipper Aaron Adams has indicated that spinner Hugh Murray may be among those considered as a replacement.

Despite the changes acting captain Ricky Hill is optimistic about Bailey's Bay's chances, pointing out the fact that the club was still in the enviable position of being able to retain a formidable squad.

Although Bailey's Bay are firm favourites after their first round performance against Flatts -- a game that Flatts barely hung onto for a draw after Bailey's Bay's dominance -- skipper Hill said that his team would not be taking victory for granted in their match-up against Cleveland.

"It's a big occasion and on any given day these other teams in the county have proven to rise to the occasion, this could be an entirely different game than the draw we had against Flatts in the first round. One thing I know is that we have a very strong team despite the changes and all I hope is that everything goes well for us,'' said Hill.

Bay's pace attack will be reinforced by the additions of the speedy Braithwaite and Trott after being forced to count on the slower pace of Corey Hill and Jermaine Outerbridge in the first round, both of whom only managed to take one wicket.

RICKY HILL -- Not taking anything for granted.
