tournament in Barbados.

The competition, featuring 14 Police teams from the Caribbean, England, South Africa and Australia, takes place over 12 days from April 19 to May 1.

The teams will be divided into two groups with the winners and runners-up in each group progressing to the semi-finals.

Bermuda will play 45-overs-a-side games against the host nation, the British Virgin Islands, Antigua, Guyana, Western Australia and the West Mercia force from England.

The other group is comprised of St Vincent, Dominica, St Kitts, South Africa, New South Wales (Australia), Trinidad and Canada.

The tournament was last staged in England two years ago when South Africa emerged as champions. Bermuda won three and lost four of their games, but team manager Richard Austin is hoping to improve on that record this time round.

"Looking at our group, if we play to our strengths we should qualify for the semi-finals. If we don't, I'll be disappointed. But any Police team will be strong.'' The team, captained by Dennis Archer, will also compete in a six-a-side event to open the tournament.

TENNIS TEN Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association launch a non-ranking tournament for junior players today in an attempt to meet the increased demand for competition among Island youngsters.

The tournament will initially be played on a round robin basis with the top four then progressing to the semi-finals.

Continuing through to April 19, the tournament begins at 4.00 p.m. today with play in the 12 and under boys group and 18 and under boys at the Government Tennis Stadium and 18 and under girls at Horizons.

The 12 and under girls and 10 and under boys begin play at 12 noon tomorrow at the Stadium.
