Collector's Hill and South Road in Smith's Parish.

Trenching began at the notorious accident spot yesterday, readying the site for a sidewalk which will stretch from the Collector's Hill Apothecary to the Cottage Bakery.

In the future, vehicles will not be able to park in front of the area's businesses -- only beside or behind the buildings. Government is hoping this will eliminate the problem of vehicles backing out into traffic and having people walking out onto South Road to get to their cars.

The Department of Works and Engineering expects the project to be completed in 8 to 10 weeks.

Smith's South MP Mr. Anthony Correia said he was "delighted'' that something concrete was finally being done about the area.

"I've been involved with this (project) for a very long time, and I wanted to get it completed before I got out of politics,'' said Mr. Correia, who has decided not to run in the next election. "And it looks like it will be.''
