BFA widens search for director
advertised in the FIFA News Journal, which has a huge worldwide circulation.
Bermuda Football Association president Charlie Marshall, who is hopeful that a capable person will be found by the end of the current season, said yesterday that the BFA has set an advertising deadline for the end of next month and then the Coaching Committee will go through the task of considering the various applications.
Marshall emphasised that their intention is to find a qualified individual who has not only had coaching experience but one who is quite equipped to run a programme covering all phases of soccer, including its administration.
"We are looking for more than someone with experience in coaching, we are looking for somebody with a good academic ability who can put together a good coaching programme starting with the Primary School, Secondary Schools and also working with the clubs,'' said Marshall.
"We need a person who can help to upgrade our own coaches and who can become totally involved in helping to further develop the young players and also work with the Department of Education.'' The job was first advertised locally and then in England before going into the FIFA News Journal. It is understood that one local person living abroad was the first to apply but he remains unidentified and then two Englishmen replied when it was advertised in their country.
Marshall revealed though that the local person who did apply had coaching ability, he did not have the other requirements that the job required and he was therefore rejected. The president had no news about the English coaches who responded.
"By advertising in the FIFA News we should get a good response as it is circulated all over the world. The English FA is also helping us in this regard and have also expressed their willingness to assist us in putting a coaching programme together.''
