Mark McAllister, 33, of Point Shares Road, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to having .696 grammes of cannabis on May 9.

Crown counsel Larry Mussenden told the court that at 2.05 a.m. that day, Police saw McAllister leaving a residence on Victoria Street.

A search revealed an envelope containing a plant-like substance.

Asked to identify the object, McAllister said: "You got me.'' He was then taken to the Hamilton Police Station where the plant substance was analysed to be .696 grammes of cannabis.

Magistrate Archibald Warner fined McAllister $500.
