Best still waiting for new contract offer
Bermuda are set for their most important period in football in a number of years guided by a man who faces an uncertain future.
Bermuda Football Association president Neville Tyrrell has refused to confirm that technical director Clyde Best will be offered a new contract when his current one expires in the next six months, although he has indicated he would like the matter to be resolved, one way or the other, by the end of the year.
It is understood there is some dissatisfaction within the BFA hierarchy over Best's performance in the role and the offer of a three-year renewal is by no means a sure thing.
When asked if he was comfortable about Best being re-hired, Tyrrell responded: "I am not comfortable about anything. I am not even comfortable that tomorrow is coming. I don't know the answer to your question.'' But he added: "The matter is presently under review and there is a procedure to follow. The coaching committee makes a recommendation to the officers who will review it and then it goes to the executives.
"Just when it will be concluded we don't know because we are dealing with people who volunteer their time.
"But I would like to see if we can bring some closure to this before the end of the year,'' Just what the BFA's concerns with Best are, remain unclear, but the coach himself is known to have grievances of his own.
The former West Ham striker is unwilling to comment on the situation, saying only that the matter is in the hands of his employers, but it is believed he has become increasingly frustrated by the failure of the body to stump up cash for preparatory matches for the Olympics and World Cup.
He is also reported to be upset about the BFA's failure to supply him with transport.
The BFA took more than a year to get him a van which, it is understood, is currently broken down, forcing Best to catch the bus to and from work and to the various soccer venues.
However, Tyrrell said that steps were in place to get Best a new vehicle.
