Jamaican who came for three weeks leaves -- after 13 years
Thirteen years after he was supposed to leave Bermuda, a Jamaican man was fined a minimal $200 and will be allowed to leave tomorrow.
Joell Hall, 33, and reportedly of the Mavis Bank district, told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner earlier this week he had not left Bermuda because he was afraid of aeroplanes.
Yesterday an Immigration Inspector told Mr. Warner: "The situation is that he'll be departing on Saturday night and we are satisfied with that arrangement.
"His original arrangement was to be departing on the 15th of September,'' he added.
Mr. Warner said: "Mr. Hall, you overstayed your welcome for 13 years.
"I understand you have made arrangements to leave. You haven't been paying taxes all that time. This is an offence. A fine of $200 -- that's a minimal fine. Can you pay today?'' Hall was released after he said he could.
Hall came to Bermuda in January, 1987 for a 21-day stay and was arrested on Saturday. He will travel back to Jamaica via British Airways to London.
