Hassell toured the US for two months, competing in mini-series and individual races in an effort to improve his form.

"I was in the States for 58 days and I raced in about 12 events,'' said the youngster yesterday. "The tracks are a lot bigger than here and more difficult. They made me feel better about my myself and I developed more self esteem. I now feel more confident about my riding.'' The 15-year-old achieved a string of second place finishes on his venture and also managed to earn a first place finish in his final race.

The experience might put Hasell a step ahead of other junior riders on the Island, but the youngster admits he will continue to try to master his 80cc scrambler before moving up to the faster 125cc class.

"Right now I am in the 80cc class and I won't move up until I have mastered the 80cc class,'' he added. "I have to master the wheelie, learn how to charge corners steeper, charge at all times and guide myself when in the air after a jump so that I can land wherever I want.'' Hassell's performances abroad earned him an invitation to the Motocross Mini-Olympics in Gainseville, Florida, scheduled for November.
