The cyclist, an 18-year-old German exchange student, was yesterday reported to be in stable condition in the hospital's intensive care with internal injuries.

Police say the accident happened around 1.30 a.m. yesterday when the student was riding his livery cycle north on Verdmont Road near Middle Road, Smith's.

They believe he was in a head-on collision with a blue Hyundai hatchback, driven by a man. The car sped away from the scene and was last seen travelling west along Middle Road. The cyclist was rushed to hospital by ambulance.
