assistance of the US-registered Quailo , Harbour Radio said last night.

A crewmember of the Quailo , a 44-foot sloop which participated in the Daytona to Bermuda race, is on board the Spirit .

The Spirit's captain, a 44-year-old male, was hurt on May 31 when the ship's boom struck him in the head bursting his eardrum and knocking him unconscious for about 24 hours.

The sailor was found in a dehydrated state with no water or fuel left on board.

The Quailo is heading back to Bermuda with the Spirit .

Rescue vessel the St. David was to get underway late last night to meet with the incoming vessels which were making slow progress.
