`Mom and Pop' bring gospel show to island
charity game to spend the weekend in Bermuda.
Mr. David Sr. and Mrs. Delores Winans, parents of 10 singing children including R&B singers BeBe and CeCe Winans and the group The Winans, are here to take part in a gospel concert on Saturday night at St. Paul's Centennial Hall.
"We chose to come to Bermuda instead of staying in Detroit for the NBA charity basketball game because the Lord's work comes first and we had to come,'' he said.
The game will raise money for the Winans' new Detroit centre Community Youth Builders, designed to keep young blacks off the streets.
Mr. and Mrs. Winans met 43 years ago while singing in a church choir.
"We were singing when we met and married and our children were raised singing in the church,'' Mrs. Winans said.
"Our making a record was not something we planned. It was something that came about through us pushing our kids to sing,'' said her husband.
The 8 p.m. concert will feature songs from their albums and performances from the First Church of God Mass Choir and "In His Image''.
Tickets are $25 from the Music Box and the Christian Book Store.
