PTB, school to meet about `unruly' students
By Stephen Breen Public Transportation Board officials are to hold a meeting with CedarBridge Academy staff after missile-throwing students from the school forced a bus driver off the road.
The PTB driver pulled over at Rural Hill, Paget, on Wednesday afternoon and called the Police because of the unruly behaviour of CedarBridge students on his bus.
PTB director Herman Basden said it was essential his staff met officials from the school to sort out the problem.
He said he accepted that sometimes students were slightly unruly after school, but missile throwing on a bus could not be tolerated because it could distract the driver and cause accidents.
Mr. Basden did not go into details about what types of missiles which were thrown or what action he hoped the school would take.
He said his officials had tried to contact the school three times yesterday, but had been unsuccessful.
Mr. Basden said: "Clearly it seems to me that what upset the driver was that the children were throwing missiles on the bus.
"We expect when children come out of school they will be a little bit rowdy, but we cannot tolerate them throwing things on the bus because it distracts the driver.
"We've tried contacting CedarBridge three times today and we're hoping to have a meeting with one of their officials about this issue. It has to be cleared up.
"Drivers have to concentrate on safety and they should not have to worry about children throwing things.'' But Mr. Basden refused to be drawn on what action should be taken.
"They are schoolchildren and they were misbehaving, but I'm shy of making anything too strong before talking to anyone else,'' he said.
The school did not return a call from The Royal Gazette yesterday.
