Watson learns from best
trip to China where he trained under Grandmaster Poi Chan.
The training group consisted of 34 people, most of whom were advanced students or instructors of various martial arts schools in the United States.
The group travelled to several cities in China and the Shoalin Temple and Wah Lum Temples. Training was rigid, rapid and extremely physical and started about 5.00 a.m. and finished about noon. An afternoon break allowed for sightseeing for a couple of hours before training resumed for two more hours in the evening, Watson said.
"GrandMaster Poi Chan had pointed out to the group that there were several reasons why this trip was important to the martial artist,'' said Watson.
"This was an opportunity to upgrade or raise a martial artist's credentials.
He had designed the trip so that with each place we visited we could learn something different.
"We also had the opportunity to study from masters who were considered amongst China's top 20 masters.'' The group was also involved in demonstrations at Shoalin Temple School, Shoalin College and China's Wha Lum Temple.
"I had an opportunity to meet several grandmasters of kung fu, two of whom were more than 80 years old,'' said Watson.
Watson received several certificates of accomplishments which he will display at his martial arts school.
