Cann's ban cut in half
ban cut in half by his club, St. David's.
His appeal against the sentence -- meted out for publicly blasting a decision by management to appoint Graham Fox as coach instead of Clay Smith -- has been successful in that it will enable him to play at least two months after April's start of the cricket season next year.
Club president Delby Borden was yesterday off the Island, but a source at the club said that the appeal's committee had decided to halve the original sentence.
Cann could not be reached for comment, but Borden had already hinted that a ruling in favour of the player was anticipated.
"I understand the committee were very impressed with his presentation. He had also written a very nice letter to management and it looks like something may eventually be worked out,'' said Borden two days ago.
Cann, in his tirade, had referred to club management as being "a bunch of jokers'' -- an outburst that caused the East Enders to take swift disciplinary action against the player.
