Brown to take seat
House of Assembly today despite an investigation into his eligibility to sit as an MP hanging over him.
Last summer controversy shrouded the Warwick West MP's election victory in 1993 after it was revealed Dr. Brown obtained US citizenship in 1990.
The Bermuda Constitution states that anyone who has pledged allegiance to a foreign power is ineligible to seek election to the House as an MP.
Since then the House Rules and Privileges Committee has met at least twice to discuss the situation, but as the House reconvenes today, no decision over Dr.
Brown's future has been reached.
House Speaker, the Hon. Ernest DeCouto, said last night: "Dr. Brown will be taking his seat as usual. I do not know when we will get a decision.'' Lawyer, Mr. Julian Hall, who was hired by the PLP to represent Dr. Brown, maintains if a challenge was to be mounted it had to be done no later than 28 days after the election.
