million research building and already scientists from around the globe are queuing up to use it.

The new 13,000 square foot building should be completed by December 2001 and will give much-needed lab and office space.

The three programmes looking forward to the extra space are the International Centre for Ocean and Human Health, the Centre for Integrated Ocean Observations and the Ocean Knowledge Network which is dedicated to Internet learning.

The Bio Station is now bursting at the seams with the resident faculty doubling over the last decade. Bio Station trustee Michael Naess said: "We are delighted by this news and will be stepping up our fundraising efforts to meet the $4 million price tag for the building and equipment.

"There is a critical need for more space. We have some very exciting new programmes ready to launch and the support received so far through the campaign has been very encouraging.

"But our problem today is that our facilities are fully utilised and to solve the space shortage we have designed this new building. Finding the funds for this new facility has become our top priority.'' Management says the new lab, which was approved by planners earlier this month, is already attracting worldwide interest.
