Durham win cup

LONDON — Durham completed a 125-run victory against Hampshire in English cricket's Friends Provident Trophy final to claim a first major prize in 16 years as a first-class team.

They completed the win in less than 40 minutes yesterday, bowling out Hampshire for 187 at Lord's in London in a match that was carried over into a second day because of rain. Durham on Saturday posted 312-5 from their 50 overs.

England's Paul Collingwood and Liam Plunkett shared the five remaining wickets as Hampshire added only 29 runs to their overnight score of 158-5.

Plunkett bowled captain Shane Warne to end the innings, finishing with figures of 3-42. Collingwood, who took the day's first wicket when Nic Pothas was caught by Graham Onions on 47, took three for 33 and Ottis Gibson claimed three for 24. Onions took the other wicket.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul top-scored for Durham with 78 before being run out, while Kyle Coetzer and Dale Benkenstein each hit 61. Benkenstein's unbeaten knock came off only 43 balls.
