Oprah's significant other, Stedman Graham to host youth projects here

Stedman Graham

Stedman Graham — famous in the US as a motivational speaker, not to mention long-term partner of media superstar Oprah Winfrey — will host two youth projects in Bermuda this summer.

Mr. Graham will support the first annual Family Centre golf tournament on June 20 at Belmont Hills.

This will raise funds for the centre’s ‘Caring for Families’ service which gives support to primary school children suffering from the effects of abuse, neglect and other social issues.

He will also conduct a free leadership development seminar at the Bermuda College the following day for young people aged 16 to 30 entitled ‘Who are You?’

Mr. Graham said last week: “It is a pleasure to be returning to Bermuda where I have spent much time enjoying the people and the Island. Having committed my life to education and community development, I have been a supporter of the Family Centre for several years.”

Explaining the idea behind the ‘Who Are You?’ seminar, Mr. Graham added: “It helps the participants understand who they are and develop a vision for their lives.”

It would, he said, cover areas including expanding opportunities, self-empowerment and leadership as well as acting as mentors for others.

Asked if Ms Winfrey would accompany him on his trip to Bermuda, he said this was unlikely because she is concentrating her time on the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for girls that she recently founded in South Africa.

Full information on both events as well as registration forms are available on the Family Centre website at www.tfc.bm. Alternatively, contact the Development Office at the Family Centre on 232-1116 extension 232.
