Middlesbrough win in FA Cup replay

LONDON, (Reuters) - A bizarre own goal by goalkeeper Paddy Kenny in extra time gave Middlesbrough a 1-0 win over Championship (second division) side Sheffield United in their FA Cup fifth round replay yesterday.

The first match had ended 0-0 in Sheffield and the replay was heading for penalties when Kenny pawed Egyptian striker Mido's deflected shot into his own net after it had come back off the post in the 114th minute.

Premier League Middlesbrough will now face another Championship side, Cardiff City, at home on March 9 for a place in the semi-finals.

A dour game produced little in the way of cohesive football and few chances, although United striker James Beattie nearly caused an upset with a close-range effort just before the end of normal time.
