SEC seminar focuses on regulation

The latest regulatory changes and trends will be the main talking point at a seminar set to be held at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel tomorrow.

The "Insight into the Latest Regulatory Changes and Trends" Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) 2008 Update Seminar, which is being hosted by the Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) and financial, marketing and business communications service provider Bowne, will run from 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.

It will cover a number of topics including the change in accounting standards, the mergers of stock exchanges and improving SEC reporting and will be introduced by Jonathan Katz, former secretary of the SEC and current resident expert for Bowne.

Opening comments will be given by the BSX's president and CEO Greg Wojciechowski, followed by a speech from Mr. Katz.

The regulatory issues set to be discussed feature the SEC initiative to switch from US accounting standards (GAAP) to international standards (IFRS), the mergers of stock exchanges internationally and how regulators will deal with the regulation of international exchanges and the regulation of brokers operating internationally, and recommendations of the SEC Advisory Committee on improving financial reporting and possible changes in SEC reporting.
