Pierce's proud mother Mary

Antonio Pierce was born in California. He has a Bermudian father - Cleo Burrows - and an American mother Mary.

His mother made the trip from her home in Moreno Valley, California, to watch her son in the biggest stage any footballer can aspire to.

According to a report on the Newsday website she sat with fans on a concessions stand for three hours before the game started and wore a jersey that read "Mom Pierce" above Antonio's No. 58.

Quoted in the story she said she was more relaxed before the game than she had been before the clash with Green Bay.

She went to game with friends and family, she said: "We've been taking everything in. Experiencing everything the NFL has to offer while we wait."

She told Newsday that she braved the freezing cold in the stands against Green Bay two weeks ago because "I like to be out there with the people."

"I had to leave in the second quarter, because it was that cold," she said.

"So I went into my car in the parking lot, turned on the heat and I listened to the second half on the radio.

"The first field goal I was OK, and the second one, too. But on the third field-goal try, I was saying, 'You better hit this one!"'

And when the Giants won, she celebrated by - what else? - honking the car horn several times.
