Writers receive literary awards
Bermuda Literary Awards are being handed out as part of Government's drive to promote local writing talent.
The Department of Culture and Community Affairs is now organising a presentation at Elbow Beach Hotel, where $2,000 prizes will be given to:
• Non-fiction: Rosemary Jones for "Bermuda Five Centuries"
• Brian Burland Prize for Fiction: shared award, Rawle Frederick for "A Ballad of Orange Valley" and Angela Barry for "Endangered Species and Other Stories"
• Children and Young Adult Fiction: Janet Wingate for "Nonsuch Summer".
At the ceremony, which will take place on a date to be fixed, Brian Burland and Cecile Norma Musson will also be honoured, as awards have been named after them.
The Bermuda Literary Awards were inaugurated by in 1999 to honour literary achievement by Bermuda's writers.
