Five questions for Katya Grokhovskaya: Ordinary people, everyday living
René Hill of The Royal Gazette interviewed Russian director Katya Grokhovskaya (pictured, above). Her film ‘The Man of No Return’ will be shown tonight at 7 p.m. at Liberty Theatre and again on Sunday at 3.45 p.m. at the Little Theatre.
Q. Is your film a documentary or a feature film?
A. It’s a feature film, but it was shot in documentary style.
Q. What is the film about>
A. This film is about relations between ordinary people, the stream of our everyday living with usual disparities.
Q. Why do you think this is an important story to tell?
A. There are many little stories in the film, that why it was interested to me. If I’m going to shoot the one story, it will be more scope.
Q. How did you finance your film? What was your budget and how did you work with iB>
A. The producer found the finances for film. It is low-budget movie, $400,000. We never deviated from the shooting schedule and the film was shot in 24 days.
Q. Have people liked it or have there been great reviews.
A. The film was approved by audience and critics. In Russia it had got a lot of reviews, because it was the first attempt to show the truncation of Russian present-day life.
