First deadline looms for Race Weekend entries

Trials for the upcoming KPMG Invitational Mile will be staged on Saturday and Sunday of next week at the National Sports Centre with runners having until this Friday to register.

Open to primary, middle, senior and over 18 runners, the trials start at 1 p.m on December 8 and 9.

Entry forms are available from local schools, the Sportseller, International Sport Shop, and KPMG offices. Entries after 5 p.m Friday will not be accepted.

The KPMG Invitational Mile, which forms part of Bermuda International Race Weekend, will be held on January 18 starting at 7 p.m in Front Street, Hamilton.

Organised by the Bermuda Track and Field Association (BTFA), the Race Weekend runs from January 18-20, and also features a 10K run and charity walk, half and full marathon.

The first entry deadline for all races is this Friday. Those entering later will pay a higher race fee. For the first time in the event's 33-year history, organisers have thrown down the gauntlet to runners offering them a unique chance to complete the trio of races as part of the inaugural Bermuda Triangle Challenge.

It is hoped the new feature will garner greater interest from overseas entrants during the traditionally quiet month of January. Participants who complete the Challenge will receive a commemorative medal and tee-shirt.

The event falls on the Martin Luther King weekend, allowing US runners to return home on the Monday holiday.

Overseas entrants can enter through the special Marathon Tours Bermuda Race Weekend package available on their website at www.marathontours.com.

Bermuda residents can download entry forms from the Race Weekend website at www.bermudaraceweekend.com. Entry forms can be left at the BTFA box at the Sportseller.
