MPs host CPA meeting

Politicians from across the globe — including the vice president of Pakistan — have jetted to Bermuda to discuss ways of improving the way Parliament works.

Representatives hailing from Pakistan, India and Scotland are among those gathered for a conference hosted by the Bermuda branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA).

The conference, attended by vice president of Pakistan, Senator Mohammed Mian Soomro, started yesterday and closes on Friday.

Aims include identifying best practices to define standards across Commonwealth countries and producing recommendations to set up an agreed set of benchmarks.

The CPA Bermuda branch is a bi-partisan committee. Speaker of the House, Stanley Lowe, and Senate President, Alf Oughton, are joint presidents.
