Forties win Commercial Knockout Cup
A superb fifth-wicket century stand between Yatin Gawas and Braxton Stowe spurred Forties to a five-wicket victory over Fine Leg Byes in the final of the Commercial Cricket League's season-ending Knockout Cup at Lord's yesterday.
Forties slumped to nine for three and lost a fourth wicket at 38 in pursuit of FLB's 164 but Gawas and Stowe carried their side to the brink of victory before Gawas was out for a sparkling 74, which included 13 fours.
Stowe scored the winning runs to complete his 50, which contained seven fours, and earned Forties, the oldest club in the league, their 14th Knockout title with more than seven overs to spare.
Slow bowler Indiga Perera was the pick of the FLB attack with four for 36 from eight overs.
Earlier, man of the match Stowe took two for 29 and also had in a hand in two run-outs, the second from a direct throw which ended Jeff DeSilva's classy knock of 51.
David DeSilva produced fine figures of two for 11 from eight and Rohan Davis took two for 24 from five while FLB's big hitters Craig Smith and Mervin Muckler made 34 and 26 respectively before FLB, who won the toss, collapsed from a promising 111 for four to 135 for nine as Forties seized the initiative.
