Traffic collisions up in September
The number of traffic collisions jumped 12 percent this September over the same month last year.
The Bermuda Police Force released statistics which showed that in September 2006 there were 224 collisions, the figure rose to 251 collisions in September 2007.
Though none of accidents in September 2007 were fatal, 93 people were injured on Bermuda's roads that month, 13 of them were classified as "serious injuries".
This too was an increase when compared to September 2006 when 89 people were injured as a result of a traffic accident. However, there was one fatal road accident in September 2006 and 16 people were seriously injured
So far eight people have died on bermuda's roads this year. Last year a total of 13 people died as a result of traffic collisions.
The total number of collisions in September 2007 was 251, 88 of which resulted in injury.
The main causes of road traffic collisions for the month were:
1. Inattention (88 incidents)
2. Inexperience (34 incidents)
3. Following too Close (22 incidents)
4. Overtaking improperly (14 incidents)
5. Reversing carelessly (14 incidents)
6. Bad road surface (wet) (10 incidents)
7. Impaired driving (6 incidents)
