Protesters rally against clinic closure

Scores of people gathered outside Parliament today to demand answers from Premier Dr. Ewart Brown about why Government plans to shut the medical clinic at the King Edward VII Memorial hospital.

The group marched up to the House of Assembly, sitting to discuss the Budget, and were greeted by the Premier who addressed the crowd and their concerns.

Organiser of the demonstration and the petition to stop the closure of the clinic, Jenny Brooks, said: "The patients were not consulted and were not given any information.

"It is a population that could easily be hidden. I have healthcare and I have an advantage so I felt like I needed to do something. ''

Dr. Catherine Wakely was asked to resign a few weeks ago for voicing her opinion that the clinic should not be closed.

However, recently acting Health Minister Philip Perinchief reiterated that the "indigent clinic" would be closed regardless of mass protest.
