Cannabis resin charge denied
A Devonshire man is denying charges he tried to import $61,000 worth of cannabis resin almost a year ago.
William Lightbourne, 20, was charged yesterday with importation and possession with intent to supply 611 grams of cannabis resin, an illegal drug. He was allegedly spotted trying to come through Bermuda International Airport.
The street value on that quantity of drugs may go as high as $61,100.
Crown counsel Cindy Clarke said prosecutors would present six witnesses to prove their case.
Mr. Lightbourne has pleaded not guilty and bail was set at $10,000.
Senior Magistrate Archie Warner also told the 20-year-old he owed $3,350 for a slew of traffic offences including driving while disqualified, driving without third party insurance and speeding.
For those infractions an additional $1,000 was tacked onto the defendant’s bail.
Mr. Lightbourne is due back in court to face new traffic offences on March 8 and will go to trial for the drug charges on June 4.
