BSX Insurance Index climbs 1.94%

The Royal Gazette / Bermuda Stock Exchange Index (BSX) fell slightly yesterday, as three companies saw their share price dip and two advanced.

But the BSX Insurance Index saw impressive gains, adding 20.65 points (1.94 percent) to close the day on 1,082.51. XL Capital Ltd. gained 6.6 percent to close on $31.02 in New York trading.

The biggest climber on the BSX was Bermuda Commercial Bank Ltd., which gained 50 cents (4.2 percent) to close on $12.50, on the trading of 400 shares.

There was heavier trading in Bermuda Telephone Company owner KeyTech Ltd., which saw 4,341 of its shares change hands as it gained five cents (0.4 percent) to end the day on $13.45.

Insurer BF&M Ltd. was the biggest faller as it slipped 85 cents (3.9 percent) to close on $21.15, as 859 shares traded.

Belco Holdings Ltd. also slipped, falling back 35 cents (1.7 percent to $20.15, on the trading of 1,300 shares.

Butterfield Bank was the heaviest traded issue, with 20,308 of its shares changing hands as it slipped five cents (0.3 percent) to close on $17.10.

The BSX closed at 5,030.20, falling 22.60 points (0.45 percent).
