Man violated probation — case sent to the Supreme Court
A 30-year-old man told Magistrate’s Court yesterday[NOTE]Thursday, January 24[\NOTE] he couldn’t meet his probation officer for almost a year because he works on his granny’s house seven days a week.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner asked Jahnia Antonio Thompson if he was supposed to believe him.
Thompson replied: “If it’s the truth.”
Thompson, of Cottage Hill Road, Hamilton, was sentenced on November 25, 2005 to nine months in prison and two years probation for breaking, entering and stealing. Thompson was released and met with his probation officer on July 31, 2006, however he has failed to meet with him since.
Mr. Warner said: “You have refused to comply with your probation order and you have been brought to court for breaching it.
“I have decided to discharge the probation period and deal with the matters afresh and will send it to the Supreme Court for sentencing.”
Thompson will be sentenced for a second time for breaking, entering and stealing in Supreme Court.
In Magistrate’s Court the charge of breaking, entering and stealing receives a maximum of 12 months in prison. Thompson will remain in custody until his trial.
