Tamala Dickinson, 25, of Beacon Hill, Sandys Parish pleaded guilty to refusing to take a breathalyser test when she was stopped by Police officers on July 29.

Prosecutor Sgt. Kenrick James said officers spotted a white car in the middle of South Road in Paget with its head and brake lights on.

As it approached the junction of Inglewood Lane the car spun into reverse, mounted the sidewalk and struck a wall. The car then came to a halt in the middle of the road, Sgt. James said.

Officers who approached the vehicle said they saw Dickinson slumped over the wheel.

She told them in a slurred voice: "I'm drunk officer. I had too much to drink. I'm drunk''.

Officers helped Dickinson, unable to stand or walk, get out of the car and lifted her into their Police car.

She later refused to take a breathalyser test at Hamilton Police Station, saying: "No, I'm drunk.'' Mrs. Lois Browne Evans, representing Dickinson, told Acting Magistrate the Wor. Arthur Hodgson this was her client's first offence and reminded him the date in question was a day of national celebration.

"Unfortunately my client enjoyed her national holiday,'' she said. "I ask you to be lenient.'' But Mr. Hodgson told her the sentence was mandatory. He gave Dickinson two months to pay the fine.
