Donor appeal

WITH World Blood Donor Day being celebrated around the globe tomorrow, the Bermuda Red Cross Blood Donor Centre, located at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital is renwing its appealfor anyone between the ages of 18 and 70 to sign up as donors.

The Medical Director of the Blood Transfusion Services at KEMH, Dr. Betsie Lombard says over the years the number of donors has steadily decreased.

"We use about 40 to 50 units a week, but we can use between 20 and 40 units for a single road traffic accident," Dr. Lombard says.

Special blood donor clinics take place every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at KEMH and the Blood Donor Centre can be reached at 236-5067 for more information.
