<Bz30>Ingham shows off his form

Skipper Ingham, the pioneer of Asian martial arts in Bermuda, is seen here after placing third in Masters Forms at John Chung's World Cup finals Martial Arts Championships last week in Washington DC. Ingham, who is now 76 years old, was up against nine contestants in the Masters which is for athletes over 40 years old. And most of the other competitors in the Masters Forms were in their early 40s — decades younger than the Bermudian. The tournament featured competitors from many US states and a group from the Jhoon Rhee Institute in Moscow, Russia. Tournament organiser John Chung also presented Skipper and Kristina Ingham a Promoters of the Year Award for the 2006 Bermuda Open Karate Championships as the outstanding tournament among the 16 regional events in the WCMAO.

At the event in Washington, Ingham also met up with a former student from his New York dojo, Rudi Winkfield, whom he had not seen in about 30 years. Winkfield, who has taught karate and jiujitsu in the US Virgin Islands, won the self defence competition.
